Today I wanted to give the class a fun reading activity which emphasised the point of 'Reading to Learn not Learning to Read'. In small groups they had to read a set of instructions on how to make a small popsical stick catapult. They made a good start and will continue with this on Friday.
They also had to focus upon the criteria they set for Effective Group Work.

Effective Group Work Criteria
·                Listen to each other (Relating to others)
·                Combined ideas-compromise (Relating to others)
·                Positive Attitude (Managing Self)
·                Don’t be bossy (Managing Self)
·                Fair Play (Relating to others)
·                Help each other-be involved (Participating & contributing)
·                Don’t be a sore loser (Managing Self)
·                Don’t rush into things (Managing Self)
·                Work as a TEAM (Participating & contributing)
·                Don’t be selfish-share (Relating to others)
·                HAVE FUN!
·                Self-control (Managing Self)

Thanks Everyone!

Thanks to those of you who have passed on your congratulations to me for winning the Walton Principal position for next year.  I am very sad to be leaving such a great school but am extremely excited to be continuing on my leadership pathway. I've always wanted to be a principal and this is by no means a reflection upon TKS-it's an awesome school!

It is ideal timing as I still get to teach TEAM 7 right through to the end of the year. They're one of the best classes I've taught and I'm stoked to be their teacher for two more terms :)

Working on our co2 racer research and designs

Here we are back into week one of term three and already going hard out on the researching and designing of our co2 racers. At this rate we should begin the construction of our racers late next week! Keep up the great work everyone :)

Hi everyone. I have been roaming the web and come across a thing called Voicethread. It allows you to share presentations and record responses to slides. I've registered myself and just done a Science Fair one as a test. Check it out and see if it works for you. I think you may need to register yourself to be able to see it. Registering is free and all you need is an email address. Or try this link http://voicethread.com/share/3221889/

Wednesday Wheels Day

Wednesday just gone was the introductory 'Wednesday Wheels Day'. Every week on Wednesday students can bring along their skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, etc (except bikes) and tear it up at lunchtime on the court.
Here are some pics from this week.

Take aim-FIRE!!!

Here are a couple of photos from the end of term one harvest festival. A few of the kids in our class took the opportunity to fling a few wet sponges at their teacher. Some hit the bullseye...or should I say Mr Kurth's Eye!!!   :)

Hot Air balloon Visit

Yesterday morning our school was fortunate enough to have a visit from one of the hot air ballooon competitors. They set up the balloon on the field and inflated it for all to see.
Our local photographer, Page Wilson caught these photos :)

Cricket Competition

A couple of weeks back we had over half our class competing in a country school cricket competition. It was loads of fun, a beauitful day and rather successful too with placing 1st, 2nd and 4th.
The kids were exceptionally well behaved and represented both our class and school well.
Here are a few pics from the day :)

Congratulations to this team for being the overall winners of the competition-Great Effort!

Cool Myspace Generators

Below is a very helpful publication which gives some guidelines and expectation examples for parents. I strongly encourage you to have a look through this to see what types of things your child should be doing as a Year 6 student.

Car Co-operative Activity

On Friday our class had a discussion on the importance of effectively co-operating. It is very important that kids learn to work well with others as in society they are/will be required to work along with others.

As a result of our class discussion we decided upon the following;

We are learning to be an...Effective Co-operative Group

·             Listen to each other (Relating to others)
·             Combine ideas and compromise (Relating to others)
·             Positive Attitude
·             Don’t be bossy!!!!
·             Fair Play
·             Help each other (Participating & contributing)
·             Don’t be a sore loser
·             Don’t rush into things (Managing Self)
·             Work as a TEAM (Relating to others)
·             Don’t be selfish (share)
·             Self-control (Managing Self)
After setting ourselves up for success I presented the class with the challenge of designing and constructing a ramp for a toy car. The aim was for the group to make the toy car travel the furtherest distance. The reward was a Perky Nana choc bar each :)

It was pleasing to see how well all groups did in achieving the criteria. Check out the photos and videos below.
Group 1

Group 2

Group 3 (Winners!)

Group 4

Group 5

Group 6
Here they all are busy with their final preparations before the competition.

Whoops...that went a bit sideways guys!
That was a good effort. That was the second best distance.
Well done on this one boys. It was your first attempt and was immediately the furtherest distance set. Great team work and a great result :)
Did someone chuck it into reverse gear????

WOW! Crash and roll!!!

That was nice and smooth which helped it go straight. Good one!

Whoops....the brakes came on!

I wonder if it was a bit too steep for the car?

Very good effort
Never mind girls....someone has to come last ;)

Custom Glitter Text

Within our class we can sometimes be a bit cramped for space. This results in our 'stuff' getting messed up or missing altogether. Sooooooo some of our bright sparks have made their own chair bags to store their stationery. Check out these cool ones.

TKS TOP SCHOOLS GAMES

Myspace Countdown Clock

Our school's major fundraising event is nearing us again.

Students would have recieved their ticket booklet to sell. Let's all try our best to sell as many as we can as all the money raised goes straight back on the kids by purchasing literacy resources.

It is also a great day to promote our school and a fun day for all participants and spectators alike.
