Term 2 Camp

AWESOME CAMP EVERYONE!!!
Well it came and went pretty quickly. Last week our choice as class went on a choice as Noho Marae :)

We left school and went to the Hamilton Museum to check out the ehibitions on Maori culture. There were also some cool exhibitions on other things which we all enjoyed.

Museum Head SHots
Following the Museum we went to Parana Park for lunch. The kids had loads of fun on the new revamp playground. The funny thing is that it is a playground for very young kids....Hmmmmmm maybe that means TEAM 7 students are just babies at heart! :)

I was EXTREMELY PROUD of every single student during the powhiri because they all showed excellent maturity and respect. YOU  GUYS ALL ROCK!!!

At Waterworld

FROM THE STUDENTS

My Most Favourite Part of the Noho Marae was looking around, because the carvings were inspiring, it’s nice to see what they believe in and it was much better than Waitomo Marae because they only had ONE carving compared to Kirikiriroa Marae in the Whare Nui (Te Koha O Te Ngiara) there were heaps. Although the most annoying part of camp was after I shared my Mihi (Speech About Your Family), The only way I thought of getting back into my sleeping bag was to stand up and jump into it so that was what I did and what do you know I tripped over myself and smacking my knee on the ground beneath me, It hurt like mad!

At Waterworld the bit that I enjoyed the most was playing outside with Keylan in the toddlers’ water playground because it was a challenge when we were running to something and it turned off on us it was soo annoying.

I learnt that the Maori Queen gave the Whare Nui’s name (Te Koha O Te Ngiara) and it takes 360-400 for only 1 carving to be finished

In term two TEAM 7 will be having an overnight stay at Kirikiriroa Marae.

The agenda (which must still be totally confirmed) is for us to leave school and visit the Maori exhibition at the Hamilton Museum. We'll then have lunch on the river before heading off to Kirikiriroa Marae (located beside Knighton Normal School). We'll have a Powhiri to welcome us on.

The idea is for us to be immersed in the Maori culture and learn all about the significance of the Whares to the Tangatawhenua. Everyone will sleep in the Whare Moe.

The next day we'll head off at about 10am and stop at Waterworld where the kids can have a swim, hydroslide and hopefully some diving on the diving boards.

The plan is to return back to school at about 2:30pm.

We're going for one night only as I want to have another one nighter or one extended day trip later in the year also.
